Crispy Orange Chicken

Asian style crispy fried chicken in a delicious sticky orange sauce. Served with rice for a comforting meal.

Ingredients for Fried Chicken:

  • 300 gms chicken (cut in small cubes – 2½ to 3 cm)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • ¼ cup + 2 tbsp flour
  • Oil (for deep frying)

Ingredients for Sticky Orange Sauce:

  • ½ tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic (finely chopped)
  • ½ cup vegetable stock
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp TGJ Orange Marmalade
  • 2 tsp sugar (regular white)
  • ½ tbsp corn flour/ corn starch
  • 1 tbsp water
Crispy Orange Chicken

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan.
  2. Mix chicken together with egg white, soy sauce, vinegar, salt and pepper. Add flour and give this a mix, until the chicken is nicely coated with this liquid mixture.
  3. Fry the chicken pieces until crisp and keep them aside.
  4. Prepare the sticky sauce by adding soy sauce, vinegar, vegetable or chicken stock, honey, sugar, TGJ Orange Marmalade and keep this aside.
  5. Heat some oil in a pan and add the chopped garlic to it. Cook this for 1-1.5 minutes and add the sauce to it. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes until it starts bubbling.
  6. Prepare the corn flour slurry by mixing together corn flour and water. Add this to the sauce and whisk for a minute on low flame.
  7. Add the fried chicken and mix until all pieces are nicely coated.
  8. Let it cook on low flame for 2 minutes and turn off the heat. Sprinkle some spring onions and serve the chicken with steamed rice or as appetizer.
